Goulder Immigration Law Firm
Practicing exclusively immigration law

Welcome to Goulder Immigration Law Firm

My name is Gerald Goulder. I'm an immigration attorney. I practice exclusively immigration, visa and naturalization law for clients throughout the U.S. and the world. I am interested in assisting people with their immigration, visa and naturalization circumstances.

Immigration involves federal law. Licensed attorneys are authorized to practice federal law throughout the United States. My practice involves both North Carolina residents, immigrants, temporary non-immigrant workers and businesses, but I also serve many clients throughout the U.S. and the world.

The state of North Carolina is home to one of the fastest-growing immigrant populations in the nation. Our increasing population of immigrants, non-immigrant temporary workers and students from around the world comprise an important part of the state's growing economy.

Through my immigration practice I assist businesses with employment or work visas, families with their immigrant and fiancée visas, students, teachers, physicians and health care workers with their work visas, permanent residents seeking naturalization to citizenship, and many others with their immigration circumstances.

I know you have questions, but you should never depend entirely on the advice of a friend or family member in immigration status matters. Immigration status is extremely individual-focused and each case is slightly different depending on the petitioner and the applicant. The Department of Homeland Security, the USCIS, the ICE, the Department of Labor and the Department of State regulations change, each case is discretionary by the deciding officer, and cases vary based on individual circumstances.

Whether you seek permanent resident status ("green card") through a family member or employer, a work visa enabling lawful employment, intend to apply for Naturalization to U.S. citizenship, seek a visa to visit the U.S. as a student, visitor, fiancée, need employer I-9 compliance advice, or face Removal or Deportation proceedings in Immigration Court you should seek immigration counsel.

I practice exclusively immigration, visa and naturalization law for clients throughout the U.S. and the world. I appreciate how complex the U.S. immigration and visa law has become. Recently the Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS) testified to the U.S. Congress that the immigration law "beats the tax code" for complexity, and that "a lawyer is often the only person who could thread the labyrinth". Why are immigration and visa laws and procedures so complex? The reasons forthe complexity are several. We have pieced together immigration laws and processes over many years, through many sessions of the Congresses. Immigration benefits decisions involve four Executive Departments of the Federal Government, the Department of Homeland Security, the Department of State, the Department of Labor, and the Department of Justice. Each Department has its own regulations and review processes. Each Department has their own decision makers. Decisions are discretionary and there are literally thousands of decision makers.

The federal court system has judicial review separate from the Executive Departments' and their agencies.

Every immigration benefit has its own set of rules, regulations, eligibility criteria and procedures. Many are complex and time-consuming to adjudicate. Immigration officials must be familiar with 24 major nonimmigrant visa categories, 70 specific types of nonimmigrant visas, as well as the intricacies of the immigrant visa processes. Some are so difficult to process that specialists must handle them. And, if you are in the U.S. and denied an application you may find yourself in Immigration Court in removal proceedings.

I honestly don't know how someone who speaks English, but doesn't work in this field every day, can understand or know how to select the appropriate immigration and visa Forms, understand the many specific eligibility requirements, complete the myriad of Forms, and determine the best supporting evidence to provide the USCIS or the U.S. Consulates. I don't know how in the world anyone who does not understand English and U.S. administrative procedures, intending immigrants for example, could handle these matters.

I enjoy working with intending immigrants and nonimmigrants who want to visit the U.S. as tourists, students, for employment or for permanent residence ("green card"). I believe my legal fees are very reasonable. In most instances my clients enjoy the benefit of a fixed-fee arrangement agreed upon prior to the commencement of their case. However, because every immigration case is extremely individual fact intensive I do not quote attorneys fees prior to taking the time to review with each prospective client his/her individual factual circumstances in an initial consultation. To start, I did you a favor. I created this site so you can find the information you want and so you can reach me quickly and easily if you'd like to learn more. I also regularly update the site on the Recent Developments page and as the laws change. Please know that I'm always interested in your questions and comments. So please don't hesitate to drop me an e-mail. I'll be happy to help you in every way. Thanks!
